Black Kettle — American Leader

Chief Black Kettle born to the Northern Só'taeo'o / Só'taétaneo'o band of the Northern Cheyennes in the Black Hills, later he married into the Wotápio / Wutapai band of the Southern Cheyenne; after 1854 he was a prominent leader of the Southern Cheyenne, who led efforts to resist American settlement from Kansas and Colorado territories. Although the troops have struck us, we throw it all behind and are glad to meet you in peace and friendship.
I once thought that I was the only man that persevered to be the friend of the white man, but since they have come and cleaned out our lodges, horses, and everything else, it is hard for to believe the white man any more.
