Albert Nobbs struggles to survive in late 19th century Ireland, where women aren't encouraged to be independent. Posing as a man, so she can work as a butler in Dublin's most posh hotel, Albert meets a handsome painter and looks to escape the lie she has been living.

Albert Nobbs: A life without decency is unbearable.
Dr. Holloran: Dear Jesus, I don't know what makes people live such miserable lives.
Dr. Holloran: Why aren't you in fancy dress?
Albert Nobbs: Me sir? But I'm a waiter.
Dr. Holloran: Well I'm a doctor. We are both disguised as ourselves. That's a good one, eh?
Helen: You are the strangest man I have ever met.
