An outcast half-wolf risks his life to prevent a deadly epidemic from ravaging Nome, Alaska.

Boris: Let me tell you something, Balto. A dog cannot make this journey alone
[starts to walk off, but stops suddenly]
Boris: but... maybe a wolf can.
Boris: Let me tell you something Balto. A dog can not make this journey alone, but maybe a wolf can.
Boris: Not a dog. Not a wolf. All he knows is what he's not. If only he could see what he is.
Boris: More whimpering? Between you and Balto is like Dostoyevsky novel around here. Lighten up.
[translating for Muk]
Luk: Oh the shame of the polar bear who fears the water. No wonder we are shunned by our fellow bear. Woe is us. It's what he said, rather pathetic really.
Telegraph Operator: From Juneau, Office of the Governor. We are shipping antitoxin by rail, stop. Train line ends at town of Nenana, stop. Select fastest dogs for sled team to carry antitoxin from Nenana to Nome, stop. God willing, train will make it through, stop.
Star: They should build a statue of him!
Kaltag: You said it!
Star: I did?
Telegraph Operator: Nome, pack ice closing in. Cannot ship antitoxin by sea. Will try by... air. Nome, storm at airport. Planes grounded until storm clears. Many regrets.
Boris: Not dog, not wolf, you are hero!
[kisses Balto on the head]
Boris: Poor Balto. He's going into freezing coldness to find the dog he doesn't like and bring medicine back to a town that doesn't like him.
Jenna: It's so gloomy down here.
Balto: Gloomy? You kiddin'? It's the most beautiful spot in the world. Dogs travel for years just to be right here.
Jenna: I can't see why.
Balto: That's 'cause you're looking at the bowl half empty. See, this is the polar ice caps.
[pushes a pile of broken bottles]
Jenna: Balto, those are broken bottles, and they're not half empty, they're *all* empty.
Balto: [motioning toward the grate that's overhead] The sun...
Jenna: Balto...
Balto: [continuing] ... and, to the north...
Jenna: The Northern Lights! Balto, you were right. It's beautiful.
Balto: Yeah, beautiful.
Boris: No brain at all, might as well be talking to... humans.
Grandma Rosy: [looking at the statue] Thank you, Balto. I would have been lost without you.
Balto: [about Jenna] She's not my type.
Balto: [leading Jenna through boiler room] Stick close.
Jenna: No problem there.
Kobuk: [to Steele about Balto] You just had to keep pushing him, didn't you?
Balto: See this? It's the Polar Ice Caps?
Jenna: Balto, those are broken bottles, and they're not half-empty, they're all empty.
Balto: The sun, and to the north
Jenna: Oh, Balto. It's beautiful.
Balto: Yeah, Beautiful
Jenna: Are you okay?
Balto: Are you you okay?
Dixie: [speaking suggestively, fidgeting with Steele's dog tag] *My* girl's away at *boarding* school.
Steele: Go ahead wolf-dog! You'll never get home! I'll make sure of that!
Jenna: Steele's lying. Balto's alive. He's coming home.
[runs out the door]
Steele: [closes his eyes and nods yes] She... just needs a little time.
Balto: Boris, I know you think this trip is crazy, but I'm glad you came.
Luk: Well, of course. We were in the water, we were moving, we got wet and... Muk. WE WERE SWIMMING!
Boris: This wolf business again. What is wrong with being half and half, I like to know? Sometimes I wish like crazy I was half eagle.
Balto: Why?
Boris: Better profile for one thing, and no one eats you for another.
Rosy: I'm sure Jenna would have you on our team.
Rosy's Father: Rosie! He might bite you, honey. He's part wolf.
Rosy: Oh, now you hurt his feelings!
Balto: I smell
[sniffs the air]
Balto: herring.
Boris: The herring are flying south too?
Balto: Hey, it must be Muk and Luk!
Boris: Good news.
Luk: [continually] Uncle Boris!
Boris: Oh no.
Balto: How sweet. Uncle Boris.
Jenna: [cheering while Balto is running in the race] Go Balto!
Steele: [bullying Balto] When I get back, I'm gonna fold you five ways, and leave you for a cat toy.
Balto: I'm coming back
[short pause]
Balto: with the medicine.
Steele: Didn't make the team, Bingo?
Balto: My name's Balto.
Steele: I'm sorry, Balto. Balto half-breed.
Star: [menacingly] Ha ha ha!
Dixie: Looks like a close race. It could even be neck and neck.
Slyvie or Sylvie: Complement her new collar before she gets whiplash.
Jenna: Is that a new collar, Dixie?
Dixie: What, this old thing? Nah. Do you think Steele will notice?
Jenna: The only way Steele notices anyone is if they're wearing a mirror.
Dixie: Steele, you are positively dis... POSABLE!
Nikki: Half wolf in the side pocket there!
[laughs]
Kaltag: He's the most dead center...
Nikki: Yeah!
Kaltag: The most on-target, the most down the middle...
[gets interrupted by Star]
Star: You hit him!
Balto: I'm beginning to see there isn't anything you can't do
Boris: I'm seeing a few things too, and it's making the ice melt... I HATE BEARS!
Balto: Steele, let me help you.
Steele: [Balto is trying to help with the medicine] Who do you think you are?
Star: Hey, what's wolf for 'Go chase your tail'?
Nikki: Good wordplay there, boss!
Kaltag: You are the wittiest, you are the drollest, the cleverest, the sharpest, you are the most hilariousest!
Star: You crack me up!
[laughs, then gets bonked on the head by Kaltag]
Star: Whoopee!
[falls down dizzily]
Balto: [being pushed into the ground by the bear and Jenna comes to help] Jenna?
The doctor: Anchorage, stop. Repeat urgent request - more diphtheria antitoxin, stop. Nome in grave danger, stop. Please help, stop.
Steele: [yells in Star's face] I am not lost!
Steele: Touch that box, and I'll tear you apart.
[after Balto tries helping Steele with the medicine]
Balto: Home sick Boris?, Do you ever think about going back?
Boris: Dont fret my dog, I'm stinking here until I'm sure you can stand on your own four feet.
Balto: Your, taking care of me?
Boris: Dont thank me.
Balto: I smell... Heron.
Boris: The heron are flying south too?
Balto: Hey, must be Muk and Luk.
Boris: Hu-uh Good news?
Luk: Uncle Boris!
Balto: Oh no.
Balto: How sweet, Uncle Boris.
Boris: Time for a goose to kick a little bear butt!
Jenna: Steele, it doesn't matter who's on the team! As long as the medicine gets through, stop being such a glory-hound!
Balto: Balto: "Maybe it's because your looking at the bowl half-empty. See this it's the polar ice caps."
Jenna: Jenna: "Balto those are broken bottles and they're not half-empty they're all empty."
Balto: Balto:
[pushes bottles forward]
Balto: Balto:
[looking up]
Balto: "The sun, and to the north."
Jenna: Jenna: "Oh Balto your right it is beautiful."
Balto: Balto: "Yeah beautiful."
Boris: Is love, so go make move. When the angels' balalaikas strum the sweet song of love... mambo.
Balto: Big paws run in my family, at least one side of my family.
Balto: [Muk is calling for Boris] How sweet. "Uncle Boris."
Balto: I'm not watching the race, I'm running it.
Balto: Come on, we don't want to miss the finish.
Boris: Oh, that would be a tragedy.
[Balto runs off, throwing Boris into the snow]
Boris: I was being sarcastic.
Star: Steele, we're going in circles...
Steele: What?
Star: Ha ha ha! Circles is a good thing. They're, uh... circular.
Kaltag: [after Steele throws Balto against the rock] That can't be legal!
Nikki: Yeah!
Star: [in disbelief; sees Balto sliding down the icy hill] Balto?
Kaltag: Balto! How did you find us?
Balto: Is anyone hurt?
Steele: Everyone
[pause]
Steele: is
[pause]
Steele: fine.
Star: Yeah, but our musher hit his head. He didn't get up.
Nikki: And he's not moving.
Balto: Alright. Follow me. I can lead you home.
Steele: We don't need your help.
Star: Maybe we should listen to Balto.
[Steele glares at Star; Star cringes and shuts his mouth]
Nikki: Well... how would you's get us home?
Balto: I marked the trail. Like this.
[scratches a tree; Steele knocks it down]
Steele: *I'll* get us back. *I'm* the lead dog! *I'm* in charge!
Balto: Then let me just take back the medicine. The children are getting sicker.
[looks at the crate on the sled]
Steele: Touch that box, and I'll tear you apart.
Balto: Steele! I'm not leaving without that medicine.
[holding his ground; tries to help with the medicine]
Steele: Who do you think you are?
Balto: Since when do you need a pedigree to help someone?
[pause]
Balto: Let me help you.
Steele: [minutes later, as Steele watches Balto and the team head toward Nome] Go ahead wolf-dog! You'll never get home! I'll make sure of that!
Jenna: [to Steele] These days I prefer my meat... cooked.
Steele: Okay... Nikki, Kaltag, Star. Gear up. We're heading out.
Balto: Wait a minute. Steele, I was the fastest dog out there.
Steele: You were the fastest... what? If you think any musher in their right mind would put you on their team... well, you're even more mixed up than I thought.
Jenna: Steele! It doesn't matter who's on the team! As long as the medicine gets through! Stop being such a glory hound!
Steele: You're a hundred percent right, Jenna. I - I - wasn't thinking about those children. The important thing here is to get the medicine through. And that's just what I'm gonna do.
[Aside, to Balto]
Steele: And when I get back, I'm gonna fold you five ways and leave you for a cat toy.
Balto: Jenna?
[clears throat]
Balto: Jenna?
Jenna: [looking at Rosy through the window] Balto. Oh, hi.
Balto: Hi. Look, uh... just a shot in the dark, but I was wondering if, uh... I-I don't know, maybe you'd like to go chase a few sticks by moonlight?
Star: [Balto has stopped, and is looking at the marked trees; he detects Steele's scent on some of them] Which way, Balto? Which way?
Balto: [looks around desperately] Uh, this way.
[continues leading the team through the forest; sees Steele's scratch-marks on every tree]
Balto: No, it can't be!
Kaltag: Why are you taking us in circles?
Balto: I'm not! I mean... I don't know!
[gesturing toward the marked trees]
Balto: It's Steele!
Nikki: [referring to Steele] Maybe we was better off with him.
Balto: No! Come on! Mush!
[starts running, going a little too fast]
Star: Balto! Slow down! Please!
Balto: I was the fastest dog.
Steele: You were the fastest
[pause]
Steele: what?
Wild Joe: I don't get it. How could Balto hope to find Steele and his team? They were off the trail.
Jenna: Well... he's tracking them.
Morse: That mutt? Tracking a championship team in a blizzard?
[laughs; a couple others join in]
Jenna: [Steele comes in] Balto?
Jenna: Steele!
Wild Joe: You're back!
Morse: We'd given you up!
Doc: Where are the others?
Steele: [bows his head] One by one they fell. Frozen, barely alive. I pulled four onto the sled and three more on my back. I walked and I walked, but it was too late. They were...
[the other dogs gasp]
Doc: What about the medicine?
Steele: I went on, dragging the medicine alone. Suddenly that wolfdog appeared. Balto demanded I let *him* take the medicine.
[turns to Jenna]
Steele: You know he just wanted so much to be a hero in your eyes.
[turns towrd the other dogs]
Steele: He grabbed the crate, but he couldn't handle it. He didn't see the patch of ice... and the cliff.
[pulls out Jenna's bandanna]
Steele: He didn't have a chance.
[shakes his head, clucking softly]
Jenna: [gasps] My bandanna!
Steele: [gets closer to Jenna] He made me promise to take care of you, Jenna.
Jenna: You're lying.
[louder]
Jenna: Steele's lying. Balto's alive. And he's coming home.
[runs out the door]
Steele: [closes his eyes and nods yes] She... just needs a little time.
Rosy's Father: Doctor, how is she?
The doctor: Exhausted from coughing. Her fever's getting worse. Looks like diphtheria.
[sighs]
The doctor: She's the 18th case this week. And I'm out of antitoxin.
Jenna: You're going on alone?
Balto: Won't be the first time.
Boris: So, let's go get medicine.
Balto: Wait a minute. Now you're coming?
Boris: Spending days in bitter cold, facing wild animals, risking death from exposure...
[giggles]
Boris: is like holiday in old country.
Steele: Hey goose, you a half-breed too, huh? Part turkey?
Jenna: [Jenna falls in the snow because she is hurt] Ahh! Clumsy.
Balto: No, you're not. You're hurt.
Jenna: I'm fine.
[Jenna gets back up but falls in the snow again]
Jenna: Ahh! Maybe I'm not so fine. You should go ahead without me.
Balto: Jenna...
Jenna: No no I'll be slowing everyone down. Rosy can't hold out much longer.
Jenna: Muk, you and Luk carry Jenna back to town on this.
[Balto gets a branch fallen off a tree]
Boris: And this time don't take tome out for a swim!
[Boris giggles]
Balto: You can make sure of that, Boris. You're gonna lead them home.
[to Jenna]
Balto: Just follow my marks.
Jenna: You're going all alone?
Balto: Won't be the first time.
Jenna: Here.
[Jenna takes off her bandana and puts it on Balto]
Jenna: Afraid it won't keep you very warm.
Balto: Yeah, it will.
[Balto and Jenna muzzle each other]
Muk: [Luk starts to cry] Well, of course Balto will come back. He's Balto isn't he?
Balto: Hey! I'm coming back, with the medicine. I promise, Jenna. Go ahead, guys. Take her home.
[Balto starts walking off but Boris stops him]
Boris: Balto, I do not like leaving you out here alone. Who's going to tell you how cold you are?
Balto: Boris.
[Balto shoves Boris to look at the others]
Balto: They need you even more then I do.
Boris: Let me tell you something, Balto. A dog cannot make this journey alone. But maybe a wolf can.
Boris: Balto. Racing in a spectator sport, it requires very little preparation! You sit, you arrange refreshments.
[Grabs a box and takes out a white flake]
Boris: You like potato chip?
[Eats it, then a bubble comes out his mouth. He reads the label on the box... Soap Flakes]
Balto: I'm not watching the race... I'm running it.
Boris: [Splutters] You said what?
Balto: Hey, look I wanna help Rosy get better. I can get that medicine through.
Boris: First of all, get it through your head that they wouldn't put you in a sled team even if you did win, which won't happen and if it did it wouldn't matter!
Balto: Boris, did 'ya ever think maybe you're the reason the other geese fly south?
Boris: [Miffed] If only your feet were as fast as your mouth.
Balto: Hey, they're starting, Wish me luck!
Boris: Luck? I don't wish you luck, I wish you SENSE!
[Balto leaves. After Boris pauses, quietly]
Boris: Good luck, kiddo.
Steele: I swam and I swam. It was freezing cold. And finally, I said 'Steele, you just have to gnaw your way to the surface', so I
[hears Balto's howl]
Steele: what?
Doc: It's Balto, with the medicine!
[runs outside; the other dogs except Steele walk out the door]
Steele: Okay, okay. I can explain. See, you guys weren't there, so you don't... wait... guys, wait just a second... please?
Boris: Balto, get your slobbering mouth off me!
Dixie: What's with you, Jenna? Steele's a genuine hero. But do you give him a sniff?
Slyvie or Sylvie: That's because Jenna is running with Balto.
[Dixie makes a noise of disbelief]
Slyvie or Sylvie: She was seen in the boiler room the other night with Balto. And they went in together and they left together. And I heard it all from a very reliable source, and don't bother to deny it.
Jenna: Well... then I won't.
Slyvie or Sylvie: [gasps] I'm speechless.
Boris: When you are big, frozen, stiff statue named Balto, don't come running to me.
Steele: Outta my way, lobo!
Star: What's with Steele? All Balto wants to do is help!
Balto: Since when do you need a pedigree to help someone?
Star: [yelling, struggling to be heard over the howling wind] Steele! Maybe we should go back! We're lost!
Steele: [in Star's face] I am not lost!
Star: [stammering] Lost? Did I say lost? You didn't let me finish. See, what I wanted to say...
[Steele cuts him off]
Steele: [looks around, then finally chooses a direction and starts walking] It's... this way! Come on!
Boris: Balto, I do not like leaving you out here alone. Who's going to tell you how cold you are?
Boris: [watching Balto scratch a tree] Good work, Balto. You took on the biggest, meanest tree in whole forest, and you won.
Balto: I'm marking the trail.
Luk: [to Muk] He's marking our trail. That's very clever.
Boris: And here I was leaving bread crumbs.
Jenna: [acting flirtatious] Gee, Steele, I have to admit, your offer is... very tempting...
[she backs him towards the boiler]
Steele: It is. Heh heh...
Jenna: But these days I prefer my meat... cooked.
[Steele realizes he is burning]
Steele: Hey goose, you a half-breed too, huh? Part turkey?
Nikki: Good wordplay there, boss!
Kaltag: You are the wittiest, you are the drollest, the cleverest, the sharpest, you are the most hilariousest!
Star: You crack me up! Ha ha, ha ha, ha ha!
[gets bonked on the head by Kaltag]
Star: Ha, ha ha ha ha! Whoopee!
[falls down dizzily]
Balto: Steele, just leave him out of this.
Nikki: [in the background] Woah-hoah-hoah! Oh yeah.
Steele: Oh, Balto.
[slaps Balto twice with his tail as he turns]
Steele: I've got a message for your mother.
[walks over to Nikki, Kaltag, and Star]
Steele: RAOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
[Nikki, Kaltag, and Star laugh, then howl with Steele]
Steele: ARRROOOOOOOO!
Steele, Nikki, Kaltag, Star: ARRROOOOOOOO!
Balto: RRRRRRRRRRR.
Kaltag: Hey, Balto! Translate this for me, will ya? Yeah, yeah!
[howls]
Star: Hey, what's wolf for 'Go chase your tail'?
Balto: RRRRRRR.
[Steele, Nikki, Kaltag, and Star see Balto approaching them, growling; they stop howling]
Steele: Get him.
[Nikki, Kaltag, and Star start barking]
Steele: Get out of here, wolfdog. You better get back to your own pack!
[spits on Balto]
Boris: Maybe we go now, huh? Now!
[Steele and the others turn around and kick snow at Balto as Boris pushes him away]
Steele: Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Kaltag: I think that Balto's friend has got his feathers ruffled.
Star: Feathers! Goose! I get it! Ah ha ha ha!
Steele: [kicks a stone at Balto, knocking him into a pile of junk]
Nikki: Half wolf in the side pocket there!
[laughs]
Kaltag: He's the most dead center...
Nikki: Yeah!
Kaltag: The most on-target, the most down the middle...
[gets interrupted by Star]
Star: He hit him!
Balto: Go ahead, guys. Take her home.
Jenna: The sun... ice caps... Balto.
Nikki: [about Steele] Congratulations, there, boss, there. It was a pleasure runnin' behind you's. 'Course the view got monotonous.
Kaltag: You're the most amazing, the most exalted, the most pre-eminent, the most top drawn.
Star: You won!
Dixie: Congratulations and solicitations, Steele!
Musher: Let's take a look at our winner here!
[Steele stomps on Balto's foot, causing him to growl in pain, bearing his teeth]
Musher: We can't trust him. He's part wolf. He might turn on me. Nikki, Kaltag, Star!
[Steele smiles deviously at Balto, then walks away]
Jenna: Balto...
Balto: [depressed] Don't talk to me, Jenna. I might turn on you.
Nikki: I hit my head on somethin'.
Kaltag: Yeah. *My* head!
Balto: [after Star sneezes] Gesundheit.
Luk: Help. Help. We can't swim. Help, help. We're drowning, we're drowning. Save us.
Boris: Bears? Fellas? IDIOT BALLS OF FLUFF?
Balto: Easy, Boris. You know how they are.
[to Muk and Luk, who are thrashing and yelling in the water]
Balto: Muk. Luk. Relax. Come on you're OK you're not drowning.
[to Muk and Luk whose yells and thrashes have subsided]
Boris: [with Russian accent] He has point bears. You are not drowning because; if you had thought for a moment you will observe, perhaps: TIDE IS OUT.
[stomps away, annoyed]
Luk: [walking on a snowfield] I spy with my little eye something beginning with S.
Balto: [shortly after Luk and Muk save him from drowning] You two guys oughta learn how to swim someday.
[hintingly]
Balto: You'd be very good at it.
[Luk and Muk are incredulous; Luk makes swimming gestures in a questioning manner]
Muk: Well, of course we were! We were in the water, we were moving, we got wet, didn't we...?
[suddenly realizes]
Muk: Luk, we were swimming!
[Balto laughs heartily]
Musher: Do you think Steele is losing his edge?
Photographer: Looks like just about any dog can outrun him.
Musher: Let's take a look at our winner here. Let's take a look at our winner.
Balto: Ahhhhh.
[after Steele steps on Balto's foot]
Musher: Well, we can't trust this one. He's part wolf. The team might turn on me.
Other Musher: Look at those teeth.
Steele: Nikki, Kaltag, Star, move it. We're strapping up.
Boris: Who should you bring on a wild goose chase but a goose?
Nikki: [about Steele] That son of a...
[gets interrupted by Kaltag]
Kaltag: He's the most malicious, the most disgusting, the most obnoxious, the most revolting, the most repulsive, the most...
[gets interrupted by Star]
Star: He's no lap dog!
[laughs nervously, then bonks himself on the head]
Rosy: Balto, I'd be lost without you.
[hugs Balto]
Balto: [smiles] Jenna!
[runs toward her and plays]
Steele: [to Balto] Do you honestly think that any musher would ever put you on his team? You're even more mixed up than I thought.
Star: You crack me up!
[laughs, then gets bonked on the head by Kaltag]
Steele: Let's celebrate. I know where all the bones are buried.
Jenna: I don't know, Steele. Suddenly I've lost my appetite.
Steele: Well, maybe your taste runs more toward
[short pause]
Steele: wolf.
Rosy: Balto, I'd have been lost without you.
[after Balto rescues Rosy's hat from being trampled by Steele]
Boris: When will you learn to stay on the sidelines?
Balto: Is anyone hurt?
Steele: Everyone
[pause]
Steele: is
[pause]
Steele: fine.
Boris: Oh, Balto. I was so scared, I got people bumps.
Nikki: [about Steele] That son of a...
[gets interrupted]
Boris: I am a delicate country bird. I hate going into town.
Steele: Hey goose, you a half-breed too, huh? Part turkey?
Nikki: Good wordplay there, boss!
Kaltag: You are the wittiest, you are the drollest, the cleverest, the sharpest, you are the most hilariousest!

Star: [says something barely understandable] Goose!
Steele: Didn't make the team, Bingo?
Boris: Don't look at him. Don't listen to him. Live a long life.
Balto: My name's Balto.
Boris: But you can call him "Idiot."
Morse: That mutt! Tracking a championship team in a blizzard!
Rosy's Father: Come on, boy. Someone wants to see you.
Jenna: You're lying.
[louder]
Jenna: Steele's lying. Balto's alive. And he's coming home.
Boris: They wouldn't put you on a sled team even if you did win.
Balto: Wish me luck.
Boris: I don't wish you luck. I wish you sense.
[quietly]
Boris: Good luck, kiddo.

[Nikki, Kaltag, and Star start barking]
Steele: Get out of here, wolfdog. You better get back to your own pack!
[spits on Balto]
Boris: Maybe it's just fear talking, but I am seeing wisdom in this advice. Maybe we go now, huh?

Boris: [about Muk and Luk after they jump into water to save Balto] They cannot swim.
Jenna: What? Polar bears who can't *swim*?
Boris: Balto! I do not like leaving you out here alone. Who's going to tell you how cold you are?
Balto: Boris, they need you even more than I do.
[Boris begins walking away and then stops]
Boris: Let me tell you something, Balto. A dog... cannot make this journey alone but... maybe a wolf can.
Rosy: I love these rudders! I love this brushbow! I love this sled! Jenna, Jenna! You're lead dog!
Rosy's mother: Then you'll need this.
[puts a musher's hat on Rosy's head]
Rosy: A real Musher's hat! Alright! We're a real sled team now! C'mon, mush!
[Jenna pulls Rosy out of the shop]
Rosy's Father: Mr. Johanson, the sled looks great. We're very grateful.
Rosy's mother: Rosy's grateful, too.
Rosy: [runs back inside] Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Mr. Johanson: [chuckles] So I gather.
Rosy: Watch this!
Rosy's Father: I dunno, honey... I still think we should've gone with the dollhouse.
[signal flare fires up in the air]
Rosy: It's the one-mile marker! C'mon, Jenna! Let's win this race! Mush!
Rosy's mother: Oh, I think she'll learn to like it.
Balto: Don't talk to me, Jenna. I might turn on you.
[walks away]
Dixie: [watches Steele] Just look at him. He's going to save the entire town. He's positively mag... NESIUM!
Jenna: It's not exactly a one-dog show, Dixie.
Kobuk: Nothing you say will ever bring me down, Steele.
Doc: [after listening to the telegraph office dog barking] It's terrible, my friends, just terrible. Steele and his team are lost.
Sled dog #1: When?
Sled dog #2: What happened?
Sled dog #3: What do you mean, lost?
Doc: They've missed their second checkpoint. They're off the trail.
[the other dogs lower their heads, saddened by the news]
Wild Joe: Can't they send another team?
Doc: It's too dangerous.
Chester: But... what about the little ones?
Doc: The medicine won't be here in time. We're going to lose them.
Balto: [silently; looking into the building] Rosy.
Steele: [to Jenna] You're a hundred percent right, Jenna. I-I wasn't thinking about those children. The important thing here is to get the medicine through. And that's just what I'm gonna do.
[aside, to Balto]
Steele: And when I get back, I'm gonna fold you five ways and leave you for a cat toy.
Kaltag: He'll feel that tomorrow!
Nikki: I think he is feeling it now.
Kaltag: Ouch!
Steele: You were the fastest
[pause]
Steele: what?
Nikki: [hearing Balto and Aniu howling] Oh, great. Things aren't bad enough. Now we got wolves!
Other dogs: Wolves?
Star: Way to go, Balto!
Kaltag: [about Balto] He has the most endurance, the most fidelity, the most intelligence...
Star: They should build a statue of him!
Kaltag: [Star flinches, thinking he'll be hit again] *You* said it!
Star: I did?
Nikki: Is that illegal?
Balto: Boris, did you ever think you're the reason the other geese fly south?
Boris: If only your feet were as fast as your mouth.
Balto: Aw, come on. What's the worst that can happen?
Sled dog: [about the unconscious musher] Looks like he's hurt bad, Steele.
Star: Wh-what do we do now, Steele?
Jenna: Steele, stop being such a glory-hound!
Nikki: [the box of serum has fallen from the tipped sled] Hey, that stuff is fragile.
Star: What's with Steele? All Balto wants to do is help!
Boris: Why do I let you talk me into these things?
Nikki: [Steele and Balto are about to fight] This is gonna be goooood.
Kaltag: Yeah.
Boris: Do you mind putting me down now, Mr. Golden Retriever?
Kaltag: Balto! What are you, nuts? If Steele catches you around here, he's gonna turn ya into kibble!
Nikki: Why not let the half-dog run? It will be fun making him eat our snow.
Boris: Where's he going? He's going out into freezing cold to find a dog he doesn't like to bring medicine back to a town that doesn't like him. Oh no. I'm beginning to understand the bear.
Nikki: Come on, Balto! You's can do it!
Star: Alright! Good catch, Balto.
Star: He's no lap dog!
Balto: [he and Steele are fighting] I don't want to fight.
Balto: I'm coming back
[pause]
Balto: with the medicine.
Nikki: Two bones says Steele takes him.
Kaltag: You're on.
Steele: Get outta here, wolfdog. You better get back to your own pack!
Balto: I have the keys to the city.
[disables hinges and pushes the door open; shows Jenna in]
Balto: After you.
Jenna: [noticing Balto's paws] Balto.
Balto: Big paws run in my family. At least... one side of my family.
Rosy: Mush, Jenna, mush! Let's win this race!
