When the brilliant but unorthodox scientist Victor Frankenstein rejects the artificial man that he has created, the Creature escapes and later swears revenge.

Henry Frankenstein: Look! It's moving. It's alive. It's alive... It's alive, it's moving, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!
Victor Moritz: Henry - In the name of God!
Henry Frankenstein: Oh, in the name of God! Now I know what it feels like to be God!
Edward Van Sloan: How do you do? Mr. Carl Laemmle feels it would be a little unkind to present this picture without just a word of friendly warning. We're about to unfold the story of Frankenstein, a man of science who sought to create a man after his own image without reckoning upon God. It is one of the strangest tales ever told. It deals with the two great mysteries of creation: life and death. I think it will thrill you. It may shock you. It might even horrify you. So if any of you feel that you do not care to subject your nerves to such a strain, now is your chance to, uh... Well, we've warned you.
Victor Moritz: You're crazy!
Henry Frankenstein: Crazy, am I? We'll see whether I'm crazy or not.
Henry Frankenstein: Dangerous? Poor old Waldman. Have you never wanted to do anything that was dangerous? Where should we be if no one tried to find out what lies beyond? Have your never wanted to look beyond the clouds and the stars, or to know what causes the trees to bud? And what changes the darkness into light? But if you talk like that, people call you crazy. Well, if I could discover just one of these things, what eternity is, for example, I wouldn't care if they did think I was crazy.
The Creature: I do know that for the sympathy of one living being, I would make peace with all. I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.
The Creature: What kind of people is it in which I am comprised? Good people? Bad people?
Victor Frankenstein: Materials. Nothing more.
The Creature: You're wrong.
[Picks up recorder]
The Creature: Did you know I knew how to play this? From which part of me did this knowledge reside? From this mind? From these hands? From this heart? And reading and speaking. Not so much things learned as things remembered.
Victor Frankenstein: Slight trace waves in the brain perhaps.
The Creature: Did you ever consider the consequences of your actions? You made me, and you left me to die. Who am I?
Victor Frankenstein: You? I don't know.
The Creature: And you think that I am evil.
[Walton finds the Creature weeping over Frankenstein's body]
Captain Robert Walton: Who are you?
The Creature: He never gave me a name.
[he continues to weep]
Captain Robert Walton: Why do you weep?
The Creature: He was my father.
[first lines]
Dr. Henry Frankenstein: Down! Down, you fool!
Victor Frankenstein: It's alive. It's alive!
The Creature: You gave me these emotions, but you didn't tell me how to use them. Now two people are dead because of us. Why?
Victor Frankenstein: There was something at work in my soul which I do not understand.
The Creature: And what of my soul? Do I have one? Or was that a part you left out?
Doctor Waldman: You have created a monster, and it will destroy you!
Little Maria: See how mine floats.
[the Monster picks her up]
Little Maria: No, you're hurting me! No!
Dr. Henry Frankenstein: You're quite sure you want to come in?... Very well.
[Locks door and pockets key]
Dr. Henry Frankenstein: Forgive me, but I'm forced to take unusual precautions.
Doctor Waldman: The brain which was stolen from my laboratory... was a *criminal* brain.
Dr. Henry Frankenstein: The neck's broken. The brain is useless. We must find another brain.
Hans: [Hans brings the dead maria to town] Maria she's drowned.
The Burgomaster: My poor man why do you bring her here.
Hans: She was MURDERED!
Henry Frankenstein: The brain you stole, Fritz. Think of it. The brain of a dead man waiting to live again in a body I made with my own hands!
Baron Frankenstein: [lastlines]
[Raises a glass of wine to offer a toast]
Baron Frankenstein: Well, as I said before, here I say again, Here's... Here's to a son... to the House of Frankenstein.
Maid: Indeed, Sir. You too, Sir.
Henry Frankenstein: Quite a good scene, isn't it? One man, crazy - three very sane spectators!
Baron Frankenstein: Here's to a son of the house of Frankenstein.
Victor Frankenstein: You do speak!
The Creature: Yes, I speak, and read, and think, and know the ways of men.
Henry Frankenstein: Help! Help!
Villager #1: Listen, it's Frankenstein.
Villager #2: That way.
Victor Frankenstein: Do you share my madness?
Walton: No, not madness.
Victor Frankenstein: What, then?
Walton: There is a passage to the North Pole. And I will find it!
Victor Frankenstein: At the cost of your own life and the lives of your own crew?
Walton: Lives come and go. If we succeed, our names will live on forever. I will be hailed as the benefactor of our species.
Victor Frankenstein: You're wrong. I of all men know that.
Doctor Waldman: Whose life was one of brutality, violence, and murder.
Henry Clerval: I'm here to become a mere doctor. I'm told that has something to do with healing the sick, which is a pity really, because I find sick people rather revolting.
Victor Frankenstein: And I'm frightened that if I tell you the truth, I'll lose you.
Elizabeth: You'll lose me if you don't.
The Creature: If you deny me my wedding night... I shall be with you on yours!
Schiller: Why don't you look where I'm going?
Henry Frankenstein: [after screaming is heard] It's Elizabeth!
The Creature: I am done with man.
The Creature: I keep my promises.
The Creature: I will have revenge! FRANKENSTEIN!
Elizabeth: Promise? Promise? Oh, don't dare use that word to me!
The Creature: I'd keep my promises if I were you.
Victor Frankenstein: I haven't got time to argue!
Elizabeth: Oh, isn't it convenient? Or doesn't it fit in with your plans? Don't you ever think of anything or anyone than yourself?
Krempe: [voiceover] You fool, Victor Frankenstein of Geneva, how could you know what you had unleashed? How was it pieced together? Bits of thieves? Bits of murderers? Evil stitched to evil stitched to evil. God help your loved ones.
The Creature: Don't bother to scream.
Walton: Who are you?
Victor Frankenstein: My name... is Victor... FRANKENSTEIN
