Two gifted high school students execute a "perfect" murder - then become engaged in an intellectual contest with a seasoned homicide detective.
Cassie: You get one life, and whatever you do with it, and whatever is done to you, you've got to face that. You can't pretend it didn't happen.
[first lines] Richard: Shall we say the words one last time? Justin: One cannot live fully without embracing suicide in crime. Richard: Say it. Justin: A pact made with relentless fire that requires that, while some live, others die. Richard: On three... in unison: One, two, three [gun shot]
Richard: Man cannot live freely without embracing suicide and crime. Justin: A pact made with relentless fire that says, while some live, others must die.
Justin: All real freedom risks crime. Indeed, freedom *is* crime, because it thinks first of itself and not of the group.
Richard: I'm the only person who really cares about you... You know, I think I'm the only person who sees how incredible you really are.
Richard: Please, that chick spreads like peanut butter.
Richard: You can't get fingerprints off of skin. Justin: You can with a magna brush, or a print camera, or an iodine gun and silver transfer sheets.
Cassie: Richard, what are you doing here? Richard: What are you doing here? Do you want something? Cassie: Like what? Richard: I don't know... Everybody wants something. Cassie: Is that right? Richard: They just don't know how to ask for it. Cassie: And what do you want?
Cap. Rod Cody: You're supposed to identify yourself with the murderer, not the victim.
Cassie: Welcome to Homicide.
Sam: He doesn't fit the profile. Cassie: The profile doesn't fit the profile.
Cassie: Can you do me a favor? Lean over and whisper something in my ear. Sam: [whispering] You know what I said about getting different partners. Cassie: Are you serious? Sam: [still whispering] I take that back. Cassie: Did you find the videotape? [Sam nods]
Sam: What are you doing? Cassie: It's called sex. It's fun, you should try it.
Cassie: Look it's not just about sex, okay? I really respect you as a person. [laughs]
Cassie: What's this smell like to you? Cap. Rod Cody: Smells like vomit. Cassie: Bag some up and send it to the lab!
Sam: [to Cassie] You're so good breaking other people down, but you never stop to take a look at yourself.
Justin: I enjoy taking indefensible positions and creating an argument for them.
Justin: We have to pay for what we did.
Cassie: Do you know why they call me the hyena? Sam: No, why do they? Cassie: Female hyenas have a kind of mock penis. You figure it out. Sam: Does that bother you? Cassie: No, I just wear loose-fitting slacks, it's really not a problem.
Justin: Each of us has within us a weak aspect, eager to give up freedom for the comfort of being dominated. But we also have a will to power that desires freedom - that insists on deciding for ourselves, each of us, individually, what is good, and what is evil.
Cassie: Fine then, what do you want? Sam: Right now? This.
Richard: [listening to loud rock music] Hey, Lisa! Wanna ride? Lisa Mills: We already did that, Richard. Richard: Oh, come on. That's not what I'm talking about. [starts dancing] Richard: Come on, it's fun in here. [Lets go of the steering wheel] Richard: You want me to beg? Please. Lisa Mills: You're gonna get in an accident! Richard: I don't - please! I don't care. Richard: Come on.
Justin: You were going to sit here and watch me kill myself.
