Charles Herbert "Chuck" Klein, nicknamed the "Hoosier Hammer", was an American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as an outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates. He was one of the most prodigious National League sluggers in the late 1920s and early 1930s. I worked on a farm. Played ball and loafed along the fishing and swimming holes of the White River, and my boyhood was not a lot different from that of other youngsters.
I avoided as much work as possible in the classroom, but did all the work possible on the ball field.
