Middle class families are struggling to send their sons and daughters to school. For many Americans, a college education is essential to future success.
Since joining the U.S. House of Representatives in November of 2006, I have strongly supported Speaker Nancy Pelosi. I have the utmost respect for her, and I believe the Democrats were able to accomplish a great deal under her leadership.
Instead of unfairly demonizing teachers, we should be working with them to find solutions to the problems in our schools and make sure every child gets an outstanding public education.
The Ryan budget puts America on the wrong path and attempts to reduce our deficit solely on the backs of our nation's most vulnerable. Instead of reducing opportunities for 99 percent of Americans, it is time for this Congress to come together and put forth an economic agenda that provides every hard-working American with a fair shot at success.
Besides the devastating impact that the Ryan budget has directly on individuals, it does nothing to support job creation or our global competitiveness. Investments in both are drastically affected through cuts in funding for transportation and infrastructure projects, as well as funding for research and development.
