Frank Whittle — English Inventor born on June 01, 1907, died on August 09, 1996

Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle OM KBE CB FRS FRAeS was an English Royal Air Force engineer air officer. He is credited with single-handedly inventing the turbojet engine. A patent was submitted by Maxime Guillaume in 1921 for a similar invention; however, this was technically unfeasible at the time. Whittle's jet engines were developed some years earlier than those of Germany's Hans von Ohain who was the designer of the first jet engine to be used to actually power an aircraft... (wikipedia)

A nation's ability to fight a modern war is as good as its technological ability.
I had always realized it was desirable to gear down the jet.
Gentlemen, I give you the Whittle engine.
Well, that's what it was bloody well designed to do, wasn't it?
